Penquis Cruizers

The Penquis Cruizers was formed in the spring of 1989 when four local couples got together to talk about the possibility of forming a club. The club was named, a date was set, and notification of the first official meeting was made in the newspapers. Within a month or two, the group had grown to about fifteen families!

Over the years the group has been involved in a variety of activities - car washes, raffles, food sales, rallies, cruises, area parades, and car shows to name a few. The membership has grown. Currently, there are nearly 70 newsletters sent to members statewide! While the Milo-Brownville area is still "home" to the Cruizers, there are members from the Millinocket, Lincoln, and Bangor areas as well as several members from the Presque Isle area and from Washington County. Newsletters are sent to New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Florida to keep members in touch with the club's activities.

While members are promised at least six newsletters a year for their $10 family membership, some years there are more. Each newsletter during the spring, summer and fall includes the most up to date Maine Association of Automobile Clubs (MAAC) Calendar of Events.

Each year the club has sponsored an annual Cruize-In. This event has been held at the JSI Store Fixtures parking lot on a Sunday near the end of June for eighteen of the last nineteen years and generally brings between 80 and 100 vehicles to the Milo area every year. People come from near and far to show off their favorite rides, talk with old friends, make some new friends, and enjoy the activities. This is the club's major fundraiser each year and a portion of the profits from the event are given to local charities.

The group's meetings generally consist of a "Cabin Fever Reliever" in March (to start planning the year's Cruize-In), the Cruize-In in late June, a fall cruise in late September/early October, and the annual meeting/Christmas party in early December. Members meet occasionally for dinner out at one of the area's local eateries and also see each other at car shows and cruise nights around the state.

What do you need to join the Cruizers? 10 bucks and a mailing address.
